What we will be learning for the week of.......October 25th - 29th

Today in Language Arts the students participated in a Reader's Theater of "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything". We worked on using expression in our voices while reading! Here are a few pictures from the groups as they were reading today......enjoy!

Check out what we will be learning this week at school.........

Math: This week we will begin our study of place value of numbers to 999. We will explore different ways to show numbers. For example: expanded form 400 + 50 + 3 = 453, using the number in written form--four hundred fifty-three, drawing a "quick picture," and writing it as a 3-digit number. Our place value unit to 999 will also include recognizing patterns when skip counting, and comparing numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to in the number sentence.

Science: This week in science we will be exploring different materials that work together to become a system or structure. For example we will look at certain materials based on their physical properties such as: "bricks are good building material because they are hard and sturdy."

Social Studies: This week we will begin our unit on government. We will begin to discuss the functions of local, state and national government. Our focus this week will be on making the students aware of these different parts of our government and how they work together. We will also look at how a bill becomes a law.

Language Arts: We will be reading fiction and non-fiction stories about pumpkins this week and doing lots of fun poetry about pumpkins and scarecrows. We will also be learning dictionary skills. For example, how to use the dictionary, guide words, parts of speech, and definitions. We will also work on putting words into ABC order throughout the week.
