Flower Pen Mania!!!!!!

"Week One" of our class flower factory was a huge success! We have sold 802 flower pens as of Friday - that is incredible! We are so proud of all the student's hard work taking orders and their excitement during the factory on Friday. Our last factory day will be this coming Friday, February 5th.

The money both classes profited from the flower pen factory will be donated to two local charities. The students took a vote on Friday and the two charities they decided upon are:
*Adopting the Bald Eagle "Liberty" from the Houston Zoo
*Donating children's books/games to Texas Children's Hospital.
Here are a few pictures from Friday's factory - thanks to all the helpers who came to assist and supervise the workers!

Check out this link below to see a short video about the bald eagle at The Houston Zoo, Liberty. She is the animal we'll be adopting this year and is a resident at the McGovern Children's Zoo (which is within The Houston Zoo). We will look forward to meeting her when we go on our field trip in March!

Astros visit

Today our school had a visit from some very special Astros.

We had a LARGE crowd of excited students......

We got to meet and listen to Wesley Wright, pitcher..........

Former player, Jimmy Wynn.........
Announcer/Sports commentator, Bill Brown........

The mascot, Junction Jack........

Third baseman, Pedro Feliz.......

We had a drawing to select a student who would get to go up on stage and ask the Astros a question. Kade Johnson, from our class, was chosen so he got the chance to go up and ask the players what career they would have chosen if they had not been baseball players. Way to go Kade!

Mrs. Martin got to go up on stage and ask them a question so she received 3 autographed pictures.

We had a great visit with the Astros and hope they come back to visit again next year. We'll definitely be rooting for them when baseball season starts!

New Year's Hats and Resolutions!

Today the students brought in their New Year's hat projects and they all turned out fabulous and so creative! The class enjoyed getting to hear each student share what their favorite memory from 2009 was and their resolutions for this new year, 2010. We are so proud of them all - they did a terrific job! Their hats are now displayed in our hallway and we will return them home within the next week.
