Farewell to our Student Teachers

Today was the last day for Ms. Overbeck's student teacher from SHSU, Mrs. Fields. We have enjoyed having her with us the past 8 weeks. Here is a picture of both classes posing with her before she left today......



Today was also the last day for Mrs. Shaw's student observer from SHSU, Ms. Brune. She visited us once a week in the afternoons and here is a picture of the afternoon class with her before she left today.....


Also, we are done with our Stanford Testing - yahoo! The students worked very hard all week and we are so proud of them. The results from the testing will be sent home in your child's Tuesday folder when they come back from being scanned......this process could take several weeks. Next week we will resume our regular homework and spelling schedule. Don't forget about your family turkey project (optional) - we can't wait to start hanging them in our hallways in preparation for the Thanksgiving holidays!

Ladybugs, Skeletons, and Arthur........Oh my!!!!!!

In science class we have been learning about the life cycle of a ladybug and we have learned so much about them! They have been alot of fun to observe. We received them as larvae, then they changed to pupa, and now they are adult ladybugs. Check out the pictures of our "Ladybug Land" below.........

This is an example of our flip book cover. Each student made their own this past week that shows each stage of life the ladybug goes through.

We have learned many interesting facts throughout our study as well. Did you know that one ladybug can lay 1,000 eggs during her lifetime? Or, that the female ladybugs are bigger than the made ladybugs? Also, did you know that the ladybug's real name is the ladybird beetle?

We have also started to study the human body this week in science. Today we focused on the bones. We learned that without our skeleton we would not have our unique shape! Here are a few examples of the "Mr. Bones" skeletons the students put together today.......

This week in reading and language arts we have been doing a study of Marc Brown's Arthur series. We have really enjoyed reading different Arthur books and doing some fun activities to go along with them. Check out some of our hard work below......
