Scaring away drugs!!!

Friday we had some awesome scarecrows in 2nd grade to help us "Scare away Drugs" in honor of Red Ribbon Week. Check out some of the scarecrows from our classes......

We also had a visit from Ronald McDonald Friday morning and our very own, Mrs. Carrell, was called to the stage to be one of his helpers......way to go Mrs. Carrell!



What will we be learning for the week of November 1st - 5th........

Math: This week we will continue our study of place value of numbers to 999. Our focus this week in our place value unit to 999 will include recognizing patterns when skip counting, and comparing numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to in the number sentence. We will have a place value test on Friday.

Science: This week in science we will be exploring light energy. We will perform a few different experiments to show that light effects the color of objects, light affects temperature, and light effects the appearance of objects.

Social Studies: This week we will continue our unit on government. We will continue our discussions on the functions of local, state and national government. We will be focusing on national government this week and take a closer look at the White House, Capitol Building and the Supreme Court Building. We will learn who works in each of these buildings in Washington D.C. and what their job is at each building.
Language Arts: This week we'll begin a study of the author, Marc Brown. He is most famous for his books about the beloved aardvark, Arthur . We will take a look at some of Marc Brown's very first Arthur books and how they have changed over the years. We will also learn how he got his ideas to start the series many years ago. We will also be learning how to write a friendly letter and be proofreading and editing some letters in class this week as well.
