"Read for a Better Life" - September 24th, 2010

This past Friday was a very special day in 2nd grade at Kaufman. We celebrated "Read for a Better Life" by having special visitors come and read to our classes throughout the day. We enjoyed all of the stories from our guests and also enjoyed having some quiet time to read our own good books as well.

The students also brought home a "Read for Life" pledge on Friday that you and your child can both sign together......reminding you to try and read everyday. Encourage them to keep it in a place that will help remind them to read!

We hope your child enjoyed this special day as much as we did. Here are some pictures from our day.....enjoy!

Mrs. Brooks (Kalie's mom) started our day off by reading an important book about Fire Safety. This was a perfect choice because right after she read this story, we had our first Fire Drill of the school year. This was also a special book because it was written and autographed by one of the famous guest authors who visited Kaufman last year, Jeff Cook.

Mrs. Cordaway (Evan's mom) entertained us as she came dressed as "Amelia Bedelia" and read us some really silly stories about her adventures trying to play baseball. Amelia was a little confused about how to play, but our class was able to explain the real rules to her!
Morgan's mom, Mrs. Guthrie ,brought in some special friends to help tell the stories she read. Very cool!

Cara's mom, Mrs. Ferrand, read us a book about beavers and we learned some neat facts that we didn't know!

Rod's mom read us some facts from one of Rod's favorite non-fiction books. Thanks for sharing it with us Rod!

Griffin's mom read to us from one of his favorite chapter books, Goosebumps!

Mattie's grandmother came to read to us and she read one of Mrs. Shaw's all time favorite books, Miss Nelson is Missing. Also, check out Mattie's cool shirt she made all by herself in honor of Read for Life day - way to go Mattie!!!

Remington's mom, Mrs. Isaac, read several great stories to us. She is such an awesome storyteller!

Joslyn's mom, Mrs. Ramos, brought in all kinds of books to share and we loved every one of them!

Aynsley's mom, Mrs. Prewitt, read us a story called Piggie Pie! The students thought this one was hilarious......good choice Mrs. Prewitt!

Thanks to all of those who came to read and spend time with us. Thank you for helping us remember to read for a better life! Readers are leaders!
