This week in math we will continue our study of place value with numbers to 99. Our focus this week will be determining the value of the number, comparing numbers using greater than, less than, equal to, and numbers that are before, after and between. Please continue to practice math facts with your child daily.

This week in science we will continue our unit on matter. We will look at reversible and irreversible changes.

In Social studies this week, we will learn about the globe, continents and oceans. Our goal is to learn their names and where they are on the globe. We will also compare and contrast maps and globes.
*See if your child will teach you the song that they learned to help them remember the continents--it's to the tune of "Where is Thumbkin!" Also, please be in conversation about where they are on the globe.

We'll discuss that we live on.....
*Planet Earth
*On the continent of North America
*In the country of The United States of America
*In the state of Texas
*In the city of Spring
*In the community of Imperial Oaks
***This is a hard concept for them to understand, so please help reinforce this at home!

In Reading we will be reading two of Cynthia Rylant's stories: Mr. Putter and Tabby Pour the Tea and Mr. Putter and Tabby Fly the Plane.
We will learn about this author, compare the stories, and work on comprehension strategies for reading fiction.

In Word Study/Spelling we are working with words that are made plural by adding s and es.

We will focus on the following concepts during Writer's Workshop this week:
1. How to write words in a snap
2. Focus on the "Most Important Part" of the story
3. Identifying the difference between internal and external thoughts
4. Writing close-in story endings

Also, our beginning of year Writing benchmark will be on Tuesday, Sept. 27th for all 2nd graders.

Looking forward to another great week of learning!
