What we will be learning for the week of January 3rd - 7th

Math: This week we will review for the middle of year math benchmark which will be this Thursday, Jan. 6th! Please remember this benchmark will NOT be read aloud.
The test will cover: place value, ordering numbers, greater/less than/equal to, number lines, number words, counting pennies, nickels, and dimes, fact families, story problems, 2-digit addition with and without regrouping, patterns, odd/even, shapes, interpreting graphs, and a subtraction mad minute.

Science: This week in science we will explore our earth's resources and rocks.

Social Studies: This week we will learn about a few countries around the world. We will learn where these places are on the globe, and learn a little about the culture in each place. The places where we will look at are: Mexico, Canada, Great Britain, and China.

Language Arts: We will be reading stories and learning facts about New Year's Day customs. We will discuss the meaning of a New Year's resolution and write some of our own for 2011. The students will also be bringing home a note in their red homework folders about a fun project we do at the beginning of each year so be on the look out for that!
