***Please remind your child to put forth their very best effort on all of their assignments at school. Also, please go over their graded work with them that comes home in the Tuesday folder. Thank you!
This week in Math we will explore numbers to 99. We will look at a hundreds chart counting by 10's, 5's, and 2's. We will also learn different ways to show a number. For example, in numerical form, expanded form, tens and ones, drawing a simple picture showing the number using tens and ones and in written form. I encourage each child to practice their math facts for 5-10 min. each night. This could be done in the car as you are going to after school activities. Our goal is to know the facts without using our fingers, so the more they hear them and say them it will become easier for them.
This week in Science we will continue to learn about matter. We will participate in a two different experiments this week......"Its' a GAS!" and "Ice Cube". Look for pictures later in the week from our science experiments! Please discuss the scientific method with your students this week. Ask them if they can tell you about the different parts: Question, Materials, Hypothesis, Data/Experiment, Conclusion. They should be able to tell you about these things this week.
In Social Studies we will be learning about maps. We will be making a map of our classroom and the community we live in. We will learn about map titles, map keys, and the compass rose. For fun this week you may have your child make a map of your house. You could also have your student help you determine which way is North, East, South, and West. If your child chooses to complete this extra fun project this week, please have them bring the map to school so we can see it!
In Reading we will be reading Eric Carle's, The Mixed-Up Chameleon. We will be working on sequencing, literal and non-literal meanings of words and suffixes. The students will be writing their own version of the story, "The Mixed Up Me".
In Writing we will be learning how to effectively write about small moments. We are learning to write personal narratives as well.
In Word Study/Spelling we are working with words that have the short u sound.
